I grew up with an extremely frugal mother & a hoarder grandmother. Our favorite way to spend a weekend was garage sales, & flea markets.
“Why go to Montgomery Ward and spend $19 on a neon sweatshirt when you could find one so much cooler at the bottom of a 10 cent box, the intentions of the first owner clearly stamped within?”
Maybe it was worn at the cuffs or stretched out in the neck or smelled of clove cigarettes…
